The Business Of Fine Art Photography

Have you ever wondered why Andreas Gursky’s images of the Prada Store are considered fine art and sell for tens of thousands of dollars while your images are considered commercial photographs?

The world of fine art photography is transforming as rapidly as the commercial marketplace. You can take advantage of this time of change to develop multiple revenue streams to support your business while, at the same time, keeping your vision fresh and alive. Creating and properly marketing a body of fine art work can be instrumental in achieving these goals.

What is a fine art photograph? Where do you market your fine art work? How do you reach that market, present your work, and create marketing materials and a Web site?

Thomas Werner, international commercial and fine art photographer, will share his experiences about these topics and much more. Werner will explain how you can build a relationship with a gallery and what happens when you get an exhibition. Werner will also help you identify sensible goals in the fine art world and how to maximize results based on those expectations.

If you've ever been interested in understanding the world of fine art photography, or if you're interested in opening new avenues for your work, this is an event that you can't afford to miss.

Portfolio Reviews with Thomas Werner

Thomas Werner will be offering one-on-one portfolio reviews where you can discuss and learn how to make your portfolio stronger, how to develop and edit a portfolio that is appropriate for your desired marketplace, and where and how your work is likely to be most successful in the fine art world.

Individual portfolio reviews will last 15 minutes each, and reservations are required as time is limited. Please bring no less than 12 and no more than 25 prints for review. One or two cohesive bodies of work are preferred. You may bring your work on a CD or DVD, but prints are encouraged and preferred (prints are what you will ultimately be presenting in a gallery, and offer the opportunity for more specific feedback and a stronger review).

Portfolio reviews are limited to the first ten paying participants. To reserve your spot, please email events@asmpnorcal.org

Saturday, January 30th, 1:30pm - 4pm

Note that Rethinking Your Business is not a portfolio review, but is instead a unique opportunity to think about how to reposition your business, repurpose your imagery, and refocus your efforts to help make your time more productive and while creating more opportunities for you and your business.
