ASMP Norcal Presents an evening with Jim Doukas, moderated by Jack Fulton

12/03/2009 - 6:00pm 12/03/2009 - 9:30pm Artist discussion with Photographer Jim Doukas FREE Location- Artist discussion with Jim Doukas, moderated by professor Jack Fulton and co-sponsored by the NorCal Chapter of The American Society of Media Photographers and it's new Fine Art Special Interest Group (www.asmpnorcal.org). A moderated discussion about Jim Doukas' life, work, methods and experience. Lecture, E-6 carousel dissolve slide show, hands on print viewing and Q&A. Join us for an in depth look into the evolution of a hand-made photograph including Chocolate Sulfide toning, hand made papers, inks, and numerous alternative processes. http://www.jdoukas.com/ This exhibition features a selection of work from the book Ancient Mythologies; Recent Visitations; work which spans the last 40 years. Included in the exhibition are recent pieces from 2009 called Branches, work which extends the mythologies to include European histories. The exhibition also includes Polaroid Pairings, a tribute to the late Dr. Land, the inventor of Polaroid. As Polaroid materials are now longer being made, this is one of the last possible exhibitions featuring these materials. Jim Doukas was born in New York and received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is an artist and educator who has taught at Ohlone College, Cabrillo College, U.C. Berkeley and S.F. City of College, which he served as Department Chair. Doukas has also taught Dye Transfer and Photography workshops for Ansel Adams Friends of Photography as well as in South America, Asia and Europe. Jim Doukas has had exhibitions of his works in California, Mexico, France and Spain. He has been designated by the Saudi Arabian government to design University of Riyadh photography complex. Jack Fulton Is an associate professor in the Photography department of the San Francisco Art Institute. As an artist and filmmaker, he has received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Paris Audiovisuel, Marin Arts Council, and is the recipient of the Belkin Wilderness Lectureship from the University of California, San Diego. His work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the M.H. de Young Museum of San Francisco, the San Jose Museum, Encontros de Fotografia, Portugal, Musee d'Art Moderne, Paris and the Institute of Contemporary Art, London.
