An ASMP/It's Your Business Event
As part of its ongoing educational initiative, ASMP is offering this new seminar to teach photographers how to use metadata to maximum advantage. Using digital asset management (DAM) tools to process, deliver, store, and retrieve their photographs efficiently, photographers will learn how to treat their image assets more like financial assets, leading to increased sales.
This seminar will teach metadata basics that will enable photographers to find images quickly and also will explore various software programs that can aid in streamlining workflow, from image capture to delivery. In addition, it will be demonstrated how a DAM program can aid both the clients who use the image and the photographer who licenses it.
Beyond delivery, photographers will learn how to use available tools to manage their photos for long-term storage and quick, easy retrieval. By covering several levels of digital asset management, the seminar will meet the needs of all photographers, regardless of whether they have small or large archives.
Scott McKiernan, the seminar leader, is photojournalism veteran who founded ZUMA Agency, one of the largest independent editorial photo agencies in the world. He used his abilities with DAM to get a photo of Ronald Reagan on the covers of both Time and People, among others, within hours of Reagan's death. Without good DAM, this would not have been possible. In 2004, McKiernan launched DOUBLEtruck , a showcase of cutting-edge photojournalism and zReportage.com, a high-end photojournalism service. McKiernan is a BFA graduate of Hartford Art School in Connecticut. He also studied at the School of Visual Arts, the Rhode Island School of Design, and completed post graduate work at the News School of Social Research.
