Negotiating the Digital & Analog Assignment--A Recipe For Success
Before the lighting is set, before the first shot is captured, and certainly before the first image is post processed, comes the fine art of estimating and negotiating the assignment.
Fine tuning your skills and techniques for completing accurate estimates and performing confident negotiations helps you increase your percentage of successful bids and stay profitable. Join us for a lively session that explores these important aspects of your business.
Industry veterans, Russell Abraham and Mel Lindstrom, will describe how they estimate and negotiate both digital and analog assignments. The keys to success revolve around identifying the differences between the types of clients you are likely to encounter--distinctions that you can exploit to enhance your negotiating posture and maximize your chances of success.
Another key is understanding the difference between a handshake agreement and a full-fledged contract, as well as how you can use your estimate to protect you during later stages of the assignment.
Along the way, Russell and Mel will describe the telltale signs of whether the client is genuinely interested in hiring you or if they're simply looking for a deal. You'll receive tips on how to negotiate usage, time limits, and the request for buyouts. Perhaps, most importantly, you'll get insight into when it's best to walk away from a potential deal.
Russell and Mel will detail other key aspects of these fine arts--such as what to incorporate into a typical estimate (including easy-to-forget items) and, paradoxically, when not to negotiate. You'll also learn how to work with change orders which can upset the best laid plans of mice and photographers.
