| President’s Message:
Spring 2003
Eric Sahlin, President
Last December and January’s push to revamp our
communications has achieved some remarkable results. The updated
newsletter has garnered a great deal of praise from our membership
and sponsors alike – thank you. But we haven’t stopped
there, we’re adding some new features: Photo Tips, In Memoriam,
and Membership this Quarter and are refining the look of the publication.
The
Website is up and totally functional. The new site features: a Member
Online Portfolio for only $60 for as long as you’re a general
member, A Resources Page that has the most complete listing of labs,
studios, vendors, city agencies, assistants and more than practically
any other source, and the ability to accept credit card payments
through PayPal. The site is well listed with the search engines
and the hits are steadily increasing.
With the bulk of the work on the communications completed,
we can concentrate on the administration of the chapter and the
event schedule. We have three great events coming this quarter:
Tom Zimberoff will share his insights on the business from his best
selling book Photography: Focus on Profit, Glen Allison
will share images, stories, and little known tips in his program
Succeed in Travel Stock Photography, and we’ll be
returning to Ft. Mason Center to have David Cohen show images and
tell stories from the A Day in the Life of Africa book
project.
Heading into the second quarter I’ve been hearing
some promising news from our membership that the strangle hold on
photo budgets has been loosening and there are some signs of life
in the market. Although we’re in a pretty deep recession and
it may take some time to fully recover, I’m reminded of a
quote from Winston Churchill steeling Great Britian after the blitz:
“This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the
end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
Many thanks for your support and I look forward to
seeing you at the events.
