President’s Message: Spring 2004
Eric Sahlin, President

It’s year two for this board, and I’m very pleased that everyone decided that their service to the chapter was rewarding enough to put up with me for another year.

Many thanks to them and to the chapter for their support. We will, however, need to start looking for replacement board members at the end of this year. Many of us feel that we won’t be able to commit the time and energy necessary for another term. Rather than having someone take over cold turkey and thrown into the frying pan (ok, enough with the fowl) in January, we’d prefer a smoother transition.

Therefore, we’d like to ask those interested in board positions to consider a Board Position at Large. This means that you’d attend some board meetings, events, and seminars; and help out where possible. For example, you might spend some time helping a particular board member, giving them the opportunity to show you how we operate the chapter. It’s not an official position and has few benefits, but will merit a great deal of pull from the board for upcoming 2005 elections. There are no firm commitments, just a desire to serve the chapter and consider running for a position on the 2005 board. If you’re interested, please email me: president@asmpnorcal.org.

It’s the second quarter, and we have three stellar events scheduled. Starting with Judy Herrmann and Michael Starke at the ASMP National-sponsored It’s your Business/Working Digitally. The seminar will concentrate on the nuts and bolts of the digital workflow. The Portfolio Event in May will give you that rare opportunity to present your work to professionals without your future on the line. Finally, rounding out the quarter in June is Photoshop for Photographers. Speaker Michael Descher of Adobe Systems will demonstrate the little-known tips to improve your digital paintbox.

Hope to see you at all the events and as always, thanks for your support.

Eric Sahlin
